Carteret Writers Hosts Award Winning Photojournalist

Rick Carroll will address Carteret Writers on March 10 at Golden Corral in Morehead City. The "Dutch treat" lunch begins at 11:15 and the program starts at noon. There is no program fee. Anyone interested in writing is welcome. Carroll will discuss working with a small press as well as the ideal author/booksigning from a bookstore owner's point of view.

After 20 years in Hawaii, Carroll and his wife Marcie moved to Beaufort where they owned an independent bookstore and a publishing company. They recently sold The Rocking Chair Bookstore in Beaufort but continue to publish books of coastal interest at Fish Towne Press, 309 Broad Street, Beaufort-by-The-Sea, NC 28516.

Since 2006, Fish Towne Press has brought to print Beaufort-By-The-Sea Journey Back in Time, The Little Turkle, A Day With Don At Cape Lookout, Sea of Greed, and the nationally released Right Down Front Ron Hudson Jazz Images, which debuted at the 50th annual Monterey Jazz Festival.

Carroll has published articles and books on dozens of topics related to Hawaii and the Pacific: voyaging canoes, hula, the supernatural, vanishing rainforests, endangered species, total eclipses, erupting volcanoes, tsunamis, and Hawaii's quest for sovereignty.

Carroll's "IZ Voice of the People," the best-selling biography of the late Hawaiian

singer Israel Kamakawiwo'ole, was named a Kiriyama Prize Notable Book of 2007. Together, the Carrolls edited Travelers Tales Hawaii which the Chicago Tribune and Honolulu Star Bulletin called "a must read" book, and "best contemporary Hawaii non-fiction."

Founded in 1983, Carteret Writers is a nonprofit organization dedicated to cultivating camaraderie between writers and promoting the art of writing. Besides monthly meetings held on the second Tuesday of the month, smaller genre critique meetings are available to members.
