Carteret Writers Gets Fishy
Nonfiction author Dail Bridges will address Carteret Writers on September 8 at Golden Corral in Morehead City. The "Dutch treat" lunch begins at 11:15 and the program starts at noon. There is no program fee. Anyone interested in writing is welcome. Bridges will read an excerpt from her book about her experience on foreign fishing trawlers, discuss how she came to write the book, and describe her experience with publication and a New York agent.
Born and raised in North Carolina, Bridges moved to Seattle in 1984 for training as a foreign fisheries observer with the National Marine Fisheries Service. She worked in the Bering Sea north of Alaska and in the waters surrounding New Zealand, living aboard Japanese and Soviet fishing trawlers for months at a time. Her book, "Ichthyology and Otoliths," describes the humorous and frightening challenges she encountered in her new world.
When her fishy adventures ended, Bridges stayed in Seattle and spent eleven years working in the high tech sector, first for Visio, then for Microsoft. In 2008, she moved to Beaufort where her Bridges Consulting firm provides management consulting and editorial services.
