Area waters close to shellfish harvesting

Due to extremely heavy rainfall and resultant runoff associated with Hurricane Ida, area waterways have closed to shellfish harvesting.

Dr. Louis B. Daniel III, Director, Division of Marine Fisheries, at the recommendation of Jeffrey P. Engel, M.D., State Health Director, Department of Health and Human Services, announced Thursday that New River, White Oak River, Queens Creek, Bear Creek, Stump Sound and Topsail Sound are temporarily closed to shellfish harvesting, effective immediately.
