14 candidates file in Carteret County

BEAUFORT — The opening of the filing period was a busy one in Carteret County as 14 candidates filed for seats in six different municipal elections.

While most of the candidates to file were incumbents seeking re-election, there were a few newcomers in the mix.

In the Town of Beaufort race, Jon Besch will make a run for the mayor's seat and Travis Masters filed for one of the two open commissioner seats. Incumbent Commissioner Charles McDonald filed for re-election to his seat.

In the Cedar Point race, Barbara Forrest, a candidate for commissioner in 2007, has signed on to run again.

Larry Kacmarcik of Pine Knoll Shores filed as a candidate for commissioner in that race while incumbent Commissioner Ted Lindblad will seek the mayor's seat.

All incumbents filed in races in Emerald Isle, Morehead City and Atlantic Beach.

In Emerald Isle, Mayor Art Schools is seeking re-election along with Commissioners Maripat Wright, Nita Hedreen and John Wootten.

Running for re-election in Morehead City are Mayor Jerry Jones and Commissioners Demus Thompson and George Ballou.

Atlantic Beach Councilman Eddie Briley also filed for re-election.
