The Breast Wellness Center

The Breast Wellness Center at the Leo W. Jenkins Cancer Center. Bringing ALL the Cancer Specialists to You, Under One Roof!
In 2008, it is predicted that 1,437,180 new cases of cancer will be diagnosed. With any cancer, it is crucial to get the best cancer care available. The Breast Wellness Center at the Leo W. Jenkins Cancer Center provides the fastest path to breast cancer diagnosis and treatment.

The Breast Wellness Center offers patients a multidisciplinary team of breast cancer specialists. Their team combines the expertise of breast surgical specialists, medical and radiation oncologists, nutritionists and holistic professionals. In one visit and under one roof, patients meet with the entire expert team. After this thorough evaluation, the team then develops a collaborative cancer fighting treatment plan that is unique to each patient.

The Breast Wellness Center features the expertise of Dr. Lisa Bellin, a breast cancer surgeon specializing in all areas of breast care including benign breast disease and male breast disease. In addition to breast cancer surgery, Dr. Bellin also performs office ultrasound exams, as well as minimally invasive sentinel node biopsies. (These have fewer side effects and less chance of arm swelling than the more common open procedures, which many surgeons still perform.) She offers patients breast conservation when indicated and works with plastic surgeons when necessary for patient benefit.

Dr. Bellin received her B.A. from the Rutgers College of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ with majors in biology and psychology and her M.D. from the Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. She performed her internship and residency in General Surgery at the Pennsylvania Hospital/University of Pennsylvania Health System in Philadelphia and was a research fellow with the Department of Anesthesia and Critical Care at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, also in Philadelphia. She is currently on staff with ECU Surgery Oncology and a Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery with the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University in Greenville.

In addition to physician training, Dr. Bellin draws a great deal from her real life experiences. According to Bellin, "I am a person, a women and a mother to three little boys, Lucas (7), Dante (6) and Maddox (2). I am also bilingual in English and Spanish." She went on to explain that her physician training and her real-life experiences have enabled her to offer her patients the best possible care, straightforward with the human touch.

Dr. Bellin prides herself on her personal touch and her ability to address patient fears. "Every patient is different, and every patient has different fears," said Bellin. She added that she and the Breast Wellness Team take the ‘fullperson approach' to address the needs and concerns of each patient both thoroughly and compassionately.

The Breast Wellness Center also features the expertise of Dr. David Pearsall, a Greenville native specializing in breast surgery. Dr. Pearsall is respected in the community and known as being gentle, meticulous and patient. In addition to Drs. Bellin and Pearsall, the Center also includes Medical Oncologists, Drs. Paul Walker and Darla Liles and Radiation Oncologists, Drs. Hyder Arastu, Gloria Frelix and Hiram Gay, as well as Heather Hopper, P.A., a physician's assistant who worked previously with Dr. Nick Habal at the Breast Cancer Center at Pitt Surgical, P.A. They are supported by an extensive staff of professionals providing patient coordination, comfort and counseling services. The Breast Wellness Center coordinates patient care with the physicians of Eastern Radiogists, Inc. for optimum patient benefit.

In addition to the Breast Wellness Center, the entire Leo W. Jenkins Cancer Center offers patients a multidisciplinary approach to cancer care. The Center features state-of-the-art therapies, compassionate care, expert second opinions, support services, nutrition counseling, holistic care, clinical trials, easy access and free parking. The Leo W. Jenkins Cancer Center experts work hand-in-hand with your physicians and surgeons to provide the best cancer care.

The Leo W. Jenkins Cancer Center is certified by the American College of Surgeons. Its Radiation Oncology department is certified by the American College of Radiology (ACR). It is the ONLY radiation oncology center in eastern North Carolina certified by the American College of Radiology- one of ONLY three in the entire state of North Carolina!
