Harris-Bervine
Anika Niambi Harris of Woodbridge, Va., and Davii Everett Bervine of Alexandria, Va., were married at 4 p.m. May 24, 2008, at St. Peter Church of Christ in Kinston. Bishop J.E. Reddick and Elderess Veronica Jackson officiated the ceremony.
The bride was escorted by her uncle, Garland Nobles, and given in marriage by her mother. She is the daughter of Joan H. Harris of Kinston and the late Arthur M. Harris.
A graduate of Howard University in Washington, D.C., with a bachelor's degree in organizational communication, the bride is the vice president and director of human resources with The Centech Group Inc. corporate office in Arlington, Va.
The groom is the son of Eleanor L. Bervine of San Jose, Calif., and the late Ernest E. Bervine.
A graduate of Hampton University in Hampton, Va., with a bachelor's degree in business, the groom is a sales manager with Lexus of Silver Spring, Md.
Following a wedding trip to Aruba, the couple resides in Woodbridge, Va.
The bride wore a soft ivory satin and organza strapless gown with a sweetheart neckline. Swarovski crystals and whimsical patterned embroidery ran along the bodice, the full ballroom skirt and the cathedral-length train.
Her fingertip-length veil flowed from a crystal elegance tiara. She carried a bouquet of white calla lilies, aspidistrus leaves and Italian Ruscus, hand tied with a satin bow.
Maids of honor were Andrea Bing of Upper Marlboro, Md.; Dana Branham of Lexington, Ky.; Samantha Taylor of Centreville, Va.; and Tracy Vinson of Chicago.
Keaisa Roach of Kinston, the bride's cousin, was the flower girl.
Bridal assistants were NKechi Cotton and John Marks III.
Al Johnson of Laurel, Md., was best man.
Groomsmen were James Mitchell of Temple Hills, Md.; the groom's nephew, Matthew Pettit of San Jose, Calif.; and Brandon Gardner of Raleigh, the bride's cousin.
Ushers were the bride's cousin, Khari Dixon of Kinston, and Terrence White of Washington, D.C.
Khari Pitts of Kinston, the bride's cousin, was ring bearer.
Gwen Wynn directed the wedding.
Beverly Nobles of Kinston, the bride's aunt, was register attendant.
Bennetta Pettit of San Jose, Calif., the groom's sister, was program attendant.
Wedding music was provided by Loyce Jones, organist; Bonita Jones, violinist; and Steven Jones, vocalist.
Reception/Parties
Immediately following the ceremony, a reception was given at the Hampton Inn by the mothers of the bride and groom. Sisters of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority were reception serenaders. Greeter and mistress of ceremony was Beatrice Davis of Kinston. Hostess was Felecia Speights of Kinston, the bride's cousin. Church and reception coordinators were Lori Bryan and Shareece Lovitt. Reception DJ was David Best.
On April 26, a surprise pamper shower was given at the Marriott Residence Inn in Pentagon City, Va., by the bridal party.
On May 10, a kitchen and recipe shower was given at the home of Beverly Nobles in Kinston by Beverly and Kemba Nobles.
On May 23, a rehearsal dinner was given at the Broken Eagle Eatery in Kinston by Ruby Jenkins, Joyce Cox, Yvonne Jones, Beatrice Davis and Esther Parker. It was followed by a rehearsal celebration and welcome party for out-of-town guests given at the Glass House in Kinston by Yvonne Jones and Joyce Bradley.
