Man pleads guilty to child pornography charge

Freedom ENC

A 74-year-old Newport man pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography on Wednesday in U.S. District Court in New Bern.

George William Moore, court records state, took his personal computer into the Computer Doctor, a computer repair business, in Havelock. While performing repairs on the computer, an employee of the business found a number of images of children performing sexual acts, and the Havelock Police Department was notified.

Police obtained a search warrant for Moore’s residence on May 29, 2007. Another computer and several media devices were seized. More than 10,000 sexually explicit images of children were found among the seized items, according to court records.

Moore faces up to 10 years in prison followed by up to a life term of supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000. Sentencing is set for Feb. 22, 2010.
