N.C. 24 eastbound open

A three-car wreck closed N.C. 24 eastbound for two hours Monday night.

A driver of an overturned Chevy Avalanche was transported to Onslow Memorial Hospital with serious, but nonlife-threatening injures, said N.C. State Highway Patrol Trooper S.A. Merritt.
The wreck occurred around 6 p.m. and the road was reopened at 8 p.m. During the closure, traffic was rerouted down N.C. 172 and Hubert Boulevard.

The drivers of the other two vehicles involved were treated at the scene, said Stacy Elliott, assistant chief with the Hubert Volunteer Fire Department Assistant.

While authorities were working the scene a driver rear-ended the vehicle in front her, Elliott said. Both of those drivers were treated for minor injuries.

The wreck involving the Avalanche remains under investigation and troopers would not say who they  believed to be at fault. The identity of the driver taken to OMH was not released by troopers due to pending next-of-kin notification.
