A 20-year-old Vanceboro woman faces multiple charges, including misdemeanor death by vehicle, in connection with a two-vehicle car crash, which left a man dead.
Hailey Renee Howell, 345 Willis Landing Road, Vanceboro was also charged with driving left of center, failing to secure a passenger under 16, and driving while license revoked.
The crash Oct. 13, on U.S. 17 two miles south of Vanceboro left Anthony Jerome Cox, 40, of Farmville dead.
The State Highway Patrol reported that Howell was traveling north on U.S. 17 and crossed the center line of the two-lane highway.
Troopers say Cox reportedly saw the van and, attempting to avoid a collision, drove into the northbound shoulder and was struck head-on by the van.
Hollowell’s 5-year-old daughter was taken to Pitt County Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Her father, Jason Jones of Aurora, said immediately after the crash that the main artery in the child’s left arm was sliced. Doctors took an artery out of her left leg and put it in her arm.
Trooper C.W. Lawrance investigated the collision. He took his findings to District Attorney Scott Thomas before charges were filed and warrants served this week.
