Havelock News

Three people were injured Friday night in crash on N.C. 101 outside Havelock.

None of the injuries was reported as life-threatening, according to the N.C. Highway Patrol.

The crash happened at 6:21 p.m. about one mile east of the N.C. 101 and N.C. 306 intersection, according to a report filed by Trooper Michael Riggs.

According to the report, David Rawls, 41, of Havelock, was driving a 2000 Toyota pickup truck and collided with a 2009 Honda passenger car driven by Marilyn Davis, 58, of Beaufort.

Rawls was heading east and had just passed another vehicle when he overcorrected, lost control and collided with Davis who was heading west, according to the report.

The crash sent Davis’ car into a ditch, while Rawls’ truck ended up in the westbound lane.

Davis, Rawls and Rawls’ passenger, Patricia Fleak, 41, of Newport, were all injured. The N.C. Highway Patrol listed Davis and Fleak as having level 3 injuries on a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 being fatal, while Rawls was listed as having level 4 injuries.

All were initially transported to CarolinaEast Medical Center in New Bern. Rawls was treated and released from the New Bern hospital, but Davis and Fleak were transported to Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville. Fleak has since been released from the hospital, but Davis' condition was not available on Tuesday.

Rawls was cited for exceeding a safe speed, according to the report.

Riggs reported that road conditions were clear and there was no rain at the time of the crash.

According to the report, the wreck caused $10,000 in damage to Davis’ car and $7,000 in damage to Rawls’ truck.
