Thunderstorm warning issued

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the Havelock area until 7:30 p.m.

A strong storm was moving through the area with high winds, heavy rain and lightning. Winds of 60 mph were possible.

The storm was moving toward Newport and Morehead City, areas also under the severe thunderstorm warning.

The storm earlier produced a tornado warning, but no twister was spotted.

As of 6:50 p.m., heavy rain was falling in the Havelock area.

The area remains under a severe thunderstorm watch until 10 p.m. today.
