Laurie Heather Johnson and Kurt Howard Vahlsing of Cincinnati, OH were united in marriage on Saturday, May 22, 2010 at The Sanderling Resort located on the outer banks in Duck, NC. The Reverend Cynthia O’Neil officiated the ceremony.
Nuptial music was provided by a string trio from Club Violin.
Given in marriage by her parents, the bride is the daughter of Edward H. Sr. and Nita H. Johnson of New Bern, NC. She is the granddaughter of Hazel Fox Hollar and the late Anon Lee Hollar of New Bern and the late Edward P. Johnson of New Bern.
Laurie earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology, as the Chancellor’s Scholar, graduating Suma Cum Laude, from East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. She earned a Doctor of Medicine Degree from Brody School of Medicine in Greenville, NC as a Brody Scholar. Laurie served her Medical Residency at Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters in Norfolk, VA. She completed her Fellowship at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital in Cincinnati, OH where she is now practicing Medicine as a Pediatric Emergency Medicine Physician.
The groom is the son of Linda Bogenshutz of Xenia, OH and the late Joseph Vahlsing of Alexandria, Kentucky. He is the grandson of the late Howard and Virginia Vahlsing of Kentucky. The groom graduated from the University of Cincinnati in Ohio with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science. He is employed with Medpace in Cincinnati as a Software Engineer.
Maid of Honor was Dr. Joanna Nacopoulos of Cincinnati, OH. Bridesmaids were Dr. Jennie Aldrink of Columbus, OH, Tara Johnson, sister-in-law of the bride, and Kaitlyn Elizabeth Johnson, niece of the bride, both of Rocky Mount, NC.
Scripture Reading was by Kaitlyn Elizabeth Johnson and Poetic Reading by Dr. Joanna Nacopoulos.
Best man was Matthew Smith of Cincinnati, OH. Groomsmen were Edward H. Johnson Jr., brother of the bride, of Rocky Mount NC and Joel Vahlsing, brother of the groom, of Cincinnati, OH. Matthew Edward Johnson of Rocky Mount, nephew of the bride, was ring bearer.
The couple hosted a rehearsal dinner on the eve of the wedding. The reception was held at the Sanderling Soundside Pavilion following the ceremony with dinner and dancing. The couple honeymooned at the Sanderling Resort in Duck, NC, followed by a honeymoon in Hawaii. The couple will reside in Cincinnati, OH.
