Two shot in separate incidences in Kinston
On Tuesday at approximately 7:10 p.m., the Kinston Department of Public responded to a report of a person shot in front of 1203 Sycamore Road, Kinston.
Upon arrival officers found Sheridan Outlaw, 38, with a single gunshot wound to his right thigh. Outlaw was transported to Lenoir Memorial Hospital and later to Pitt Memorial Hospital via EastCare Air Ambulance.
“The victim is currently being treated at Pitt Memorial Hospital,” said Det. Sgt. Craig Jarman of the KDPS. “He is currently listed in critical condition.”
According to the KDPS, a witness stated he heard one shot and saw two black male subjects running south on Sycamore Road.
On Wednesday, at approximately 12:39 a.m., the KDPS was contacted by Lenoir Memorial Emergency staff regarding a gunshot victim they were treating. Upon arrival officers found Gary Atkins, 27, with a gunshot wound to his leg.
Atkins and his friend stated the suspect was a black male, but had no other details for officers.
“Mr. Atkins and his friend John Williams said they didn’t know where the shooting took place,” Jarman said. “Neither the victim or his friend were very forthcoming with information.”
Jarman said both the victim and his friend are from Tarboro, but they did not say what they were doing in Kinston.
“Atkins has been treated and released from the hospital,” Jarman said.
Both investigations are ongoing.
If anyone has information regarding either incident, they are asked to call Det. Sgt. Craig Jarman at 252-939-3184 or Lenoir County Crime Stoppers at 252-523-4444.
