NC EDUCATIONAL LOTTERY: Are they discrimating against young adults?
On February the 10th, a young adult over the age of 18 enters a retail gas station to buy herself a Lottery Scratch-off ticket, because she fills lucky and now that she has already turned 18 is rightfully and legally able to do so, or is she?
It seems that due to the NC EDU LOTTERY she is not, because she still carries a NC Driver License that has a RED BOARDER, which was issued to her while in high school at the age of 16 and doesn't expire until she is 20 yrs old.
A RED BORDER SLOGAN FROM THE NC EDU LOTTERY MEANS NO SALE! You are a minor in the eyes of the Lottery commission.
This RED BORDER SLOGAN is to protect the retail clerk from selling to minors but at the same time discriminate against the Young Adult.
Your young adult only has one option in this situation, that is go to the DMV and get another ID without a RED BOARDER of course with a fee of $30.00 attached even thou your ID is valid and doesn't expire for 2 more years.
The NC General statue is clear and understandable; Do not sell to minors, check there ID and if over 18 sell it, but if you do sell to a minor you will be fined. By the way this also applies to Tobacco products. Want to hear the whole story give me a call and we'll see how many more law biding young adults are being discriminated against in North Carolina.
