GRANTSBORO — The Pamlico County Historical Association is expanding hours and staff for its museum, the Heritage Center.
A grand opening is scheduled Saturday for the expanded gift shop, which will be under the direction of new volunteer manager Jo Ann Stowe.
Stowe bring experience as a floral designer, who owned her own shop, and expertise working with a major retailer, Belk.
Pat Prescott, the association’s executive director, said the addition of Stowe and the expanded hours would allow more tourists and local residents an opportunity to visit the museum, which opened earlier this year.
The open house and new hours, Tuesday through Saturday, are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Prescott said the new gift shops is stocked with the work of local talents – artists, craftsmen, photographers and jewelry-makers.
She said the shop provides local residents in a rural county with another outlet for unique and specialty gift items.
The museum staff is also taking orders for Christmas trees grown in the mountains of western North Carolina. The Fraser firs range from six to 12 feet and are priced from $40.
The trees are scheduled for arrival at the museum on Dec. 5.
