Car lands in Neuse River
A Pink Hill woman escaped serious injury this morning after her car flew off U.S. 70 in Kinston and ended up in the Neuse River.
The State Highway Patrol received a report of the single-car accident at 6 a.m. today.
Andrea Davis, 36, of Pink Hill, apparently fell asleep at the wheel and her 1995 Nissan Maxima careened onto the median on U.S. 70 near the N.C. Wildlife boat ramp. The vehicle drove down the median and became airborne, jumping a large area of rocks and landing in the river, according to the preliminary accident report.
According to Trooper Josh Noble, the vehicle traveled approximately 143 feet in the air before landing in the river. Davis told the Highway Patrol that she woke up in the water and climbed out of the car and made it back to land. Davis, who was on her way to work, reported she doesn't remember driving into the river.
Davis was transported to Lenoir Memorial Hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
She was charged with reckless driving.
