Mark Powers and Guylene Powers of New Bern announce the engagement of their daughter, Amanda Marie Powers of New Bern, to Rex Allen Bennett of New Bern.

The bridegroom-elect is the son of Joe Ann Spence of New Bern and the late Cecil Jackson Bennett Jr.

The bride-elect graduated from East Carolina University and Cape Fear Community College and is employed by Pamlico Community College as the assessment and retention specialist.

The bridegroom-elect graduated from Beacon University and the School of Funeral Service at Fayetteville Technical College and is employed by Pollock-Best Funerals and Cremations as general manager and licensed funeral director.

A wedding is planned for October 11, 2008, at the New Bern Church of God.
