Northside wins first dual match of the Season
Northside wrestling won a closely contested conference dual at home Tuesday versus the Clinton Dark Horses.
Northside's Antonio Woodard, a senior and two time state qualifier, earned his 96th career win by pinning in 1:08 and is on pace to get 100th this Friday at the DH Conley Milt Sherman duals in Greenville.
Senior Ivy Conekin won his 102 match by forfeit. Ivy won his 100th match this past weekend at the Lumberton Invitational tournament. 9th graders Kyle Streif 103 and Jason King 152, juniors Ronnie Bittiker 135, David Stanley 189, and Chris Jones 285 all earned wins versus Clinton opponents. Junior Vincent Nicola lost a tough match against Clinton's Guiterriez at 171 pounds. Northside is 1-2 over all and in the ECC conference.
On the season Northside has had outstanding individual performaces. Senior Ivy Conekin placed first at the Rosewood Invitational 12/18, second at the Hunt Takedown Report Invitational 11/24, and third at Lumberton 12/15, he is 13-3 overall.
Fellow Senior Antonio Woodard coming late from the Monarch football playoffs has placed second at Rosewood and second at Lumberton, where he scored an 8 second pin, he is 9-2 on the season. Senior Jon McCullum has placed third at Rosewood and Lumberton, while Junior David Stanley placed third at Rosewood (tie 5 match rule).
Northside will be at two dual tournaments over the Winter Break, DH Conly and Topsail, and on January 5th will compete in the annual Onslow County Cup at White Oak High School.
