A Jacksonville woman was arrested Sunday in Myrtle Beach after authorities say she punched a police officer in the face.
Regina Maria Daughtry, 37, of Pony Farm Road, was charged with resisting arrest, interfering with official police business, assault on a police officer and public intoxication, according to the S.C. Court System.
A taxi cab driver called police because passengers left his cab after vomiting in the back seat and refusing to pay the fare. When police officers arrived at the location at about 1 a.m., they found an allegedly intoxicated man in a Bojangles parking lot, according to the Myrtle Beach Police Department.
As a police officer tried to arrest the man for public intoxication, Daughtry punched him in the face below his right eye, hit him in the chest and continued to swing her arms at him, according to The Sun News of Myrtle Beach.
After securing the man, officers tried to handcuff Daughtry after arresting her for assault. She dropped to the ground and began rolling around to avoid being handcuffed. When back up arrived, police handcuffed Daughtry and took her into custody, according to police reports.
A third passenger of the cab returned to pay the driver the fare, according to The Sun News.
Daughtry is due in Myrtle Beach Municipal Court on Nov. 16.
Messages left for Daughtry were not immediately returned.
