Staff report
RALEIGH — A Newport man has pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography.
George William Moore, 74, of Newport, pled guilty before United States District Judge James C. Dever, III, to possession of child pornography in federal court today, according to a U.S. Attorney’s Office press release.
Moore was arrested in May of 2007 after he took his computer to a computer repair shop where technicians found images of children performing sexual acts and contacted the Havelock Police Department, according to the release.
The release states a search warrant for Moore’s home turned up another computer and several media devices that contained more than 10,000 sexually explicit images of children.
Moore faces up to 10 years in prison, a life term of supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000. If Moore has a prior conviction relating to sexual abuse or child pornography, the imprisonment increases to up to 20 years.
Sentencing is set for Feb. 22.
