N.C. 55 in Pamlico County now open following tanker truck crash

Update: N.C. 55 opened at 1:23 p.m.

A overturned propane truck has N.C. 55 closed in Pamlico County about three miles west of Reelsboro. Pamlico County Emergency Management Director Dan Lamont said residents have been evacuated for a quarter-mile in either direction of the crash, which involved a propane delivery truck from Eastern Propane of Alliance. He said “there is no leak at this time” from the 9 a.m. crash. He said the company was sending other trucks to offload the overturned vehicle’s propane cargo. He said the driver did not appear to have life-threatening injuries, but was transported to Carolina East Medical Center in New Bern. Station No. 9 volunteers from the Reelsboro Volunteer Fire Department have the station command, with assistance from departments from Olympia and Grantsboro/Silverhill.
