All seats filled for Carteret election

All the open seats in Carteret County’s municipal elections now have candidates.

The Carteret County Board of Elections extended the filing period for two open seats — one on the Peletier Board of Commissioners and one on the Harkers Island Sanitary District Board — when candidates were still needed at the close of the regular filing period at noon on July 17.

Peletier Commissioner Larry Rhue has since filed for reelection to that board, and Benjamin L. “Rusty” Brooks Jr. has filed as a candidate for the Harkers Island board.

While all the open seats now have at least one candidate, the extended filing period remains open until noon on Friday for anyone else who may be interested in running for one of the two seats.
