Sheriff's Office steps up to help deputy

The Carteret County Sheriff’s Office is stepping up to help one of its own.

County Sheriff’s Deputy Cameron Nelson has been diagnosed with a tumor located on his brain and will be traveling to Duke University Medical Center for surgery and treatment options, according to the sheriff’s office.

To assist the family, the sheriff’s office has set up a fund for donations to help Nelson with medical and travel expenses. Donations can be made payable to: The Benefit for Cameron Nelson; Carteret County Sheriff’s Office; PO Drawer 239; Beaufort, NC 28516; Attention, April McGilvery.

Nelson and his wife, Helena, are the parents of a newborn son born on Nov. 14.
