Woman charged after stabbing

Sun Journal Staff

A 68-year-old woman has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill after lawmen say she stabbed a relative in James City.

Alma Slade stabbed Rodney Slade in the back with a kitchen knife at about 10 p.m. Monday at 307 James St., said Capt. Marshall Taylor of the Craven County Sheriff's Office Criminal Division.

Rodney Slade was arguing with his girlfriend before the stabbing happened, Taylor said. His injuries were not life-threatening, Taylor said.

Alma Slade was taken to the Craven County Jail at 12:22 a.m., and she was released at 1:25 a.m. after she met her $500 bond, jailer Tom Burroughs said.

District Attorney Scott Thomas said she appeared before a District Court judge today for the felony charge. Her next court appearance is set for July 8.
