Leah Meredith Sutton of Kinston and Michael Ladd Oglesby of Smithfield were united in marriage at 5 p.m. Nov. 21, 2009, at Bethel Free Will Baptist Church in Kinston. Frank Purvis, pastor, officiated the ceremony.
Escorted by her father, and given in marriage by her parents, the bride is the daughter of Kenny and Teresa Sutton of Kinston.
She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edmond Taylor of Deep Run, Peggy Sutton of Kinston, and Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Sutton of Cedar Point.
The bride received a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. She is a teacher with the Johnston County Schools.
The groom is the son of Ladd and Teresa Oglesby of Goldsboro.
He is the grandson of Reba Butts of Goldsboro and the late Walter Butts, and the Rev. Charles and Marguerite Oglesby of Kinston.
The groom received a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from North Carolina State University. He is an engineer with Vertical Solutions in Apex.
Following a wedding trip to the Virgin Islands, the couple resides in Smithfield.
Matron of honor was the bride’s cousin, Cayla Sanderlin of New Bern.
Bridesmaids were Carrie Austin, Vanessa Burge and Emily Hurley, all of Raleigh; Caroline Barrow and Jennifer Pelletier, both of La Grange; Casey Francis of Cary; Stephanie Stallings of Greenville; and the groom’s sister, Kelly Wilson of Jacksonville.
The bride’s cousin, Kacey Cooper of Burlington, was junior bridesmaid.
The groom’s father served as his son’s best man.
Groomsmen were Hal Blake of Burgaw; Brett Butts and Todd MacCoy, both of Goldsboro; Charles Francis and Michael O’Connor Jr., both of Raleigh; the bride’s cousin, Aaron Sutton, and her brothers, Jacob Sutton and Jared Sutton, all of Kinston.
Music was provided by Gail Barnard, pianist, and Joey Coor and Chris Jarman, vocalists.
The wedding was directed by Bernice Fordham of Snow Hill.
Register attendants were the bride’s cousins, Kate Cooper of Burlington and Hope Lapsley of Cary.

Reception/parties
Following the ceremony, a reception was given by the bride’s parents at the Community Council for the Arts in Kinston.
On Aug. 22, an “Around the House” shower was given by the bride’s aunts, Kelley King and Jan Sutton, and cousin, Cayla Sanderlin, at the Folded Napkin in Kinston.
On Oct. 25, a miscellaneous shower was given by Angela Barrow, Loretta Campbell, Laura Dawson, Pamela Griffin, Elizabeth Radford and Tammy Winstead at Bethel F.W.B. Church in Kinston.
On Nov. 1, a miscellaneous shower was given by the Baptist Women’s Fellowship at Northview Baptist Church in Goldsboro.
On Nov. 6, a cookout was given by co-workers at Vertical Solutions in Apex.
On Nov. 15, a Christmas shower was given by Jennifer Pelletier, Kathy Pelletier and Stephanie Stallings at the Pelletier home.
On Nov. 20, a bridesmaids’ luncheon was given by the bride’s aunts, Tonya Cooper, Tamara Lapsley, Tracie Taylor, and her grandmother, Hazel Taylor, at Our Picnic Basket in Kinston.
On Nov. 20, a rehearsal dinner was given by the groom’s parents at Lane Tree Country Club in Goldsboro.
