Medical examiner: Woman died from bite to throat

Virginia authorities say a Jacksonville woman died Saturday after she was bitten in the throat by a dog.

Norfolk police said 49-year-old Theresa Ann Ellerman’s death was accidental and they will not be pressing charges against the owner of the Alaskan malamute that bit her. The fate of the dog remains unclear.

Ellerman was visiting friends in Norfolk when she was bitten. She was taken to a Norfolk hospital and died at about 3:45 a.m.

“This was a very tragic accident,” said Chris Amos, a spokesman with the Norfolk Police Department.

He said the department would not be identifying the dog’s owner.

Something is missing from this story. If the authorities ruled this accidental, you should report what caused the accident. The story you report makes the reader draw the conclusion that the dog was vicious, but the ruling leads one to believe that there is much to this story that has not been reported.
