Kari Lane Burd of Pink Hill and Sean Lee Pierce of Chesapeake, Va., were united in marriage at 6 p.m. Oct. 3, 2009. Joe Ard was the officiating minister.
Escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents, the bride is the daughter of Randy and Phyllis Burd of Pink Hill. She is the granddaughter of Harold and Sally Johnson of Dudley, and Evelyn Kepple of Yorktown, Va.
The bride is a graduate of South Lenoir High School.
The groom is the son of Tammy Brown of Spokane, Wash., and Perry and Diane Pierce of Deer Park, Wash. He is the grandson of Glenda Armstrong of Deer Park, Wash., and Larry Nelson of Spokane, Wash.
A graduate of University High School in Spokane, Wash., and the Naval Nuclear Power School, he is a nuclear engineer with the United States Navy aboard the Dwight D. Eisenhower Air Craft Carrier.
A wedding celebration will be held in Oahu, Hawaii, in December.
The couple resides in Chesapeake, Va.
Maid of honor was Melissa Smith of Miami, Fla.
Bridesmaids were Maggie Kennedy of Kinston; Stephanie Davis of Pink Hill; the bride’s sister-in-law, Brandy Burd, also of Pink Hill; Alisha Burger of Spokane, Wash.; and Niki Indiano of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
The bride’s cousin, Olivia Denooyer of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., was junior bridesmaid.
Best man was the groom’s brother, Dustin Aarestad of Spokane, Wash.
Groomsmen were the groom’s father, Perry Pierce; the groom’s brothers, Nathan Pierce and Christopher Pierce; and the groom’s uncle, Robert Wadzuk, all of Deer Park, Wash.; and the bride’s brother, Denny Burd of Pink Hill.
The groom’s brother, Austin Pierce of Deer Park, Wash., was junior groomsman.
Nolan Perry of Kinston was an usher.
The bride’s nephew, Brayden Burd of Pink Hill, was ring bearer.
Reception/parties
Following the ceremony, a reception was given by the bride’s parents at Yankee Hall Plantation.
On Feb. 14, an engagement party was given by the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gary Perry and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Johnson at Sleepy Creek Clubhouse.
On Sept. 27, a bridal shower was given by Pam Smith, Mary Ella Howard, Kathy Creech, Merry Graves, Fran Ward, Bobbie Sugg, Mary Perry and Sally Johnson at Pink Hill Presbyterian Church.
On Sept. 30, a pig picking to meet out of town guests was held at the home of Randy and Phyllis Burd.
On Oct. 1, a bachelorette spa day was given by Melissa Smith, Maggie Kennedy and Pam Smith at Dun Arties Spa in New Bern.
On Oct. 1, a bachelor’s deep sea fishing trip was given by the groomsmen, followed by a night on the town in New Bern.
On Oct. 2, a bridal luncheon was given by the bride’s aunts, Mary Perry and Nancy Denooyer, and the bride’s grandmother, Sally Johnson, at Our Picnic Basket.
On Oct. 2, a rehearsal dinner was given by Perry and Diane Pierce at their vacation home in New Bern.
