Trent Woods man appears to have drowned

TRENT WOODS — Police believe that a man whose body was found behind his home on Christmas Day accidentally drowned in a swampy area of Trent Woods.

Clement Garner Brinson, 59, was found dead when Trent Woods police responded to a 911 call in the 5100 block of Meadowbrook Drive in Trent Woods just after 9 a.m.

Brinson’s body was found “in a body of water behind his house, in a swampy area that is near Cypress Shores Lake,” said Trent Woods Police Chief Mike Register.

A preliminary autopsy done in Onslow County indicates that Brinson drowned, Register said. Register said authorities do not suspect foul play. Register said he could not offer any further information until the final autopsy results are available.
