Bear workshop registration ends today

Continuum Home Care and Hospice sponsors a memory bear workshop for children and adults from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

The event will be held at the Onslow County Multipurpose Complex, 4024 Richlands Highway. Bring an article of clothing of loved one to be remembered.

The event is free; however, participants must register by today19.

Thursday is the last day to sign up for assistance from Christmas Cheer.

Those who need help in Onslow County this year for the holidays, go to the Christmas Cheer building, located on U.S. 258 by the new Walmart.  Bring photo ID, social security cards for everyone in the household and proof of income. 

 

Santa to visit Jacksonville Mall

Santa Claus will arrive at the Jacksonville Mall Friday for his annual “Checking it Twice” holiday show.

The show begins at 6:30 p.m. with a special performance by Christmas characters and a magical snowfall before children take photos and share their Christmas wish list with Santa.

Holiday parade

The Jacksonville-Onslow 54th annual holiday parade is set for Saturday.

The parade will kick off at 9:45 a.m. at Coastal Carolina Community College and continue down Western Boulevard to the Brynn Marr Shopping Center.

This year’s mascots are George and Astro Jetson from the popular 1960s sitcom “The Jetsons,” and the theme is “Joys of the Holidays.”

The event is sponsored by Time Warner Cable.

 

Men of Awareness will sponsor a Watch Night spaghetti dinner fundraiser for prostate cancer from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

 The event will be held at the USO, located at 9 Tallman St. in Jacksonville.

The menu includes spaghetti, salad, green beans, garlic/corn bread, cake and a beverage.

There will be a raffle for watches.

The Havelock Chamber of Commerce and Craven Community College’s Military Business Center has scheduled a workshop to help businesses work with the federal government.

“Doing Business with the Federal Government” is scheduled from 8 to 10 a.m. Friday at the Havelock campus of Craven Community College.

The workshop is limited to 20 people, and those wishing to attend must register in advance by contacting Stephanie Duncan at the Havelock Chamber of Commerce. Information on the business, names of participants and phone number can be e-mailed to Stephanie@havelockchamber.org.
