Kinston man charged with child abuse

Case remains under investigation and man still in jail

Staff Writer

A Kinston man was arrested this week at the Lenoir County Courthouse in connection with an incident of child abuse that allegedly occurred Feb. 17.

Byris Harris, 40, of 605 Larkspur Road, was charged Tuesday with felony child abuse inflicting serious injury.

Harris, who was reported by the Kinston Department of Public Safety to be an employee of Lenox China Manufacturing on Dobbs Farm Road, was given a $25,000 bond and remains in custody at the Lenoir County Jail.

The KDPS did not release the name or the age of the minor.

“While it is under investigation it is pretty hushed,” Woody Spencer, a spokesman with the KDPS, said.

Harris had his first appearance in court scheduled for Wednesday.
