The Rite Aid pharmacy at 701 Plaza Blvd. is going out of business.
“That location will close for one week beginning Jan. 16,” Rite Aid spokesman Eric Harkreader from its corporate headquarters in Camp Hill, Penn, said.
“During that week the staff will take a full inventory, and the store will reopen on Jan. 24 to sell off the remaining non-pharmaceutical stock at sale prices.”
Harkreader said all prescriptions and patient histories will be transferred to the Rite Aid location at 201 W. Vernon Ave.
“That site employs 10 people, and we’re trying to find other opportunities for those staffers in the area,” Harkreader said.
There are currently 4,800 Rite Aids in 31 states across the country, with 244 locations in North Carolina. The Plaza Boulevard location has been in operation since 2001.

| Pharmacies should be simply that Pharmacies. Competing with big box retailers such as Walmart is never a good idea, particularly in the healthcare industry. With increased dependence on prescription medications across all age groups, the inability to turn a profit when the primary product is prescription medications, really says a lot about this retailers practices. |
