Going to the air show? Stay safe in the heat

Havelock News

Organizers want you to stay cool for the final day of the Cherry Point Air Show on Sunday.

Temperatures on the air show flightline topped 100 degrees Saturday, and some guests were treated for symptoms of heat exhaustion, according to a news release from the air station.

The release included the following heat safety tips for those who plan on attending Sunday's show:

- Bring your own bottles of water. Guests are now allowed to bring one personal-sized cooler, no larger than 15-quart capacity, containing only ice, water or bottled water.  No other outside beverages will be allowed and the coolers may be checked by security personnel.

- Water-dispensing tanks are available at no cost to refill water bottles or coolers.

- Bring small hand towels.  These towels can be immersed into ice water at available aid stations for self-cooling.

- Fire hydrants will be opened to serve as sprinklers for children.

- Bottled water and other beverages are available for purchase from vendors located throughout the air show area.

- A cooling station with portable air-conditioning units will be available for attendees.

- Civilian and military medical personnel will be on-scene throughout the show to provide any necessary first aid.

The third and last day of air show performances starts at 10 a.m. Sunday. Gates are set to open at 8 a.m., with the general public admitted at the Cunningham gate.
