Authorities investigating man's death

Authorities are investigating the death of a man found in the bathtub of a local motel.

The man was found Thursday morning with an apparent gunshot wound to the head in Coastal Motel at 1950 Wilmington Highway, said Onslow County Sheriff Ed Brown.

Authorities would not speculate whether the gunshot wound was self-inflicted.

"Right now we're investigating an unattended death," Brown said.

The man was scheduled to check out and when he didn't, a motel attendant found his body, authorities said.
