Man hurt when scooter, car collide
A 34-year-old Kinston man sustained serious injuries Thursday after his motor-scooter collided with a car at the intersection of Vernon Avenue and Pollock Street.
David Lynn Batten was heading west on Vernon, riding his 50 cc scooter at about 20 MPH, when he hit the right side of Tonya Talley's 1999 Saturn, said MPO Preston Ellis of the Kinston police.
Talley, 28, of Kinston, was driving north on Pollock and was crossing Vernon when Batten collided with her vehicle.
Ellis said Batten broke several bones in his leg and torso; the helmet he was wearing saved his life. Batten was airlifted to Pitt County Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Charges are pending on both parties, Ellis said.
