New Bern man wins $100,000 on scratch-off lottery ticket
A New Bern man won $100,000 on a green and gold instant scratch-off ticket.
James Wooten claimed the money Tuesday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh.
He bought the ticket at Family Fare on South Glenburnie Road in New Bern.
A clerk at the store who works seven days week said he could not remember selling the winning ticket. He did not know know Wooten.
Pam Walker, a spokeswoman for the N.C. Education Lottery, said Tuesday that Wooten told officials he would probably pay off his pickup and go to a family reunion with the winnings.
Walker said his take-home would be about $68,000.
The federal government takes 25 percent of the winnings while the state takes 7 percent.
Walker said Wooten was also described as a "nice man."
Those who win $100,000 or more must claim the money in Raleigh rather than the district lottery headquarters in Greenville.
Wooten could not be reached for comment.
