No matches found.Board of Education members looking for re-election
Most Onslow and Carteret County Board of Education members hope to retain their seats up for re-election this year.
Board Vice Chairman Ronnie Ross and members Lina Pagett-Parker and Mary Anne Sharpe plan to file for re-election to their seats on the Onslow County Board of Education — all three are up for re-election.
Ross is in his 12th year on the board; Pagett-Parker has served 10 years; and Sharp has served 14.
In Carteret County, one Board of Education member said he will not be seeking re-election.
Bill Blair, from District 5, said, after 35 years in education, he will step aside. He served on the Carteret County BOE for 10 years.
“I feel good about the Carteret County school system right now — we’ve completed the bond projects; I am confident with the new superintendent at the helm, so I think it’s a good time to step aside,” he said.
Board Chairman Cathy Neagle and member Adele Collins both said they intend to file for their respective seats.
Neagle, from District 3, has served on the school board for 10 years. Collins, from District 1, has served three.
The District 6 seat, held by June Fulcher who has served on the board 22 years, is also up for re-election. Fulcher did not return calls for comment.
Candidate filing begins in Onslow and Carteret counties at noon today and continues until noon Feb. 26.
