More traffic woes
Bridge maintenance will delays traffic next week
Bridge maintenance will delay motorists next week in New Bern and in Pamlico County.
The work is on the Glenburnie Road bridge over U.S. 70 in New Bern and the N.C. 55 bridge over Bay River between Bayboro and Stonewall.
In both instances, the work involves deck sealant, according to John Hughes, the state Department of Transportation Division II bridge maintenance engineer.
The Pamlico County work will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday. Hughes said motorists should plan for delays. Flagmen will be in place on both sides of the bridge.
The Glenburnie Road work is also from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday through Friday.
Hughes said there would be lane closures in both directions at the same time.
He said there would also be detours in place.
"The operation will not permit left turns off the bridge going east or west," he said.
Motorists traveling west-bound on U.S. 70 who exit onto Glenburnie Road will only be able to turn right.
