John Butler and Don Germann work for the N.C. Department of Transportation and were busy this week testing the traffic lights at each end of the new Alfred Cunningham Bridge to see if all were working properly.

    Cunningham Bridge scheduled to take traffic today

    After nearly three years of work to replace the old Alfred Cunningham Bridge, the new $41 million bridge is expected to open to traffic today.

    An official opening ceremony for the bridge is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at Union Point Park.
