Fifth person arrested in Sneads Ferry burglary

A man working on the new Onslow County Jail took a break Wednesday afternoon, walked a short distance and turned himself in as a person of interest in a Sneads Ferry burglary case.

James Austin Boone, 20, of South Smith Street in Holly Ridge, was charged Wednesday by the Onslow County Sheriff's Department with first-degree burglary, possession of burglary tools and conspiracy.

Boone is accused of joining four other people in a home invasion Monday on Crows Nest Lane that failed when a homeowner shot one of the alleged burglars in the arm, authorities said.

The homeowner will not be charged in the case, because North Carolina state law allows for the use of deadly force in defending one's home, authorities said Tuesday.

Boone's bond was set at $50,000.
