Couple accused of stealing from woman's grandparents

A Carteret County pair was charged over the weekend for stealing property from a home one of the suspects was watching for family members, authorities said.

Carteret County sheriff’s deputies arrested Alexander Scott Talbot, 20, of 217 Clayton Drive, Newport and Laura Leigh Horne of 2710 Eastover Court, also of Newport, on Sunday for felony larceny from a residence in Newport, according to a news release issued on the arrest.

Deputies Griffin Garner and Pete Soltowski said Talbot was visiting Horne, who was house sitting for her grandparents, and the two left the residence and took a .40 caliber handgun and a flat screen television with them.

Talbot and Horne were arrested and placed in the Carteret County Jail under a combined $15,000 bond for the larceny charges. Talbot, who posted bond Sunday evening, was re-arrested early Monday morning when deputies found him in possession of the stolen handgun. The television was also recovered, authorities said.

Talbot was also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of stolen property and given an additional $5,000 bond.
