High speed chase ends in a crash on U.S. 70

Brian Jonas Keith, 42, of Dudley was charged with felony fleeing to elude arrest, careless and reckless driving and DWI after leading lawmen from several agencies throughout Wayne and Lenoir counties on chase from Goldsboro to Kinston Monday evening.

Police said the chase began after Keith pulled away from a traffic stop. 

Keith's vehicle eventually ran over three sets of stop strips on U.S. 70 and crashed about a mile west of the Jones County line. Lawmen said he reached speeds of more than 90 miles per hour.

Keith, who had to be extracted from his vehicle by area fire crews after it rolled over several times in the median, was wanted by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office in connection with a breaking and entering in Seven Springs. he was treated at Lenoir Memorial Hospital and released into police custody.
