Police looking for two other men
A New Bern man was arrested Wednesday on a charge of stealing and forging checks from Mett's Climate Controlled Storage at 301 North Glenburnie Road.
Police said the owner of the business reported the checks missing and that unauthorized transactions had occurred on his bank account. The owner reported the incident on June 5. Police investigators say they identified James Albert Berry, 31, of 724 Main St., as a possible suspect in the case. Police said they learned that Berry had cashed at least three of the stolen checks, and they say he attempted to cash others.
Berry was arrested and charged with three counts of forgery, larceny, possession of stolen property and three counts of obtaining property by false pretenses. He was put in the Craven County Jail, and his bond was set at $5,000.
Investigators have also issued warrants for two other men involved in fraudulent activity.
Police are asking anyone with information about the location of Tyron Jarmaine Berry, 28, and Sherman Maurice Robbins, 22, to call (252) 633-2020 or Craven County Crime Stoppers at (252) 633-5141. Crime Stoppers offers a reward for viable information.
