Kinston did receive 6 inches of snowfall on Dec. 24, 1989. On the following day, the high temperature for the city reached 24 degrees.
It was a balmy 78 degrees in Kinston on Dec. 25, 1932. The high temperature this Friday is forecast to reach 60 degrees, well above and below the city’s record low and high tempertures set in 1989 and 1932.
Accuweather spokesman Tom Kines said rain showers will move into the Kinston region Thursday night and remain in the area on Friday.
“It’s going to be a soggy Christmas Day,” Kines said. “It looks like it’s going to rain all day.”
