Swansboro Elementary students are giving a concert where admission will be one canned food item per person. Donations will benefit Christmas Cheer.
The concert will be themed Christmas Around the World and the students will be singing and sharing information about different countries and cultures worldwide.
The concert is an effort to give back to the community, said Lisa Rice, principal of Swansboro Elementary.
"The concert is just another way to contribute more," she said.
Trexler Middle School is joining the fun and hosting a holiday themed student dance Thursday afternoon from 2:45 to 4:45 p.m. at the gymnasium, where ticket and refreshment sales will benefit Christmas Cheer.
"Students love a dance," said Susanne Long, principal.
Tickets are $4 per person.
Long said the idea for the dance came after she read that the most underrepresented group for donations was the age group that a middle school would serve and she wanted to change that.
"It's sad in a middle school, sometimes you can't always tell student needs," Long said. "We want to give back to the community."
Trexler teachers supported the dance early on with about 20 teachers volunteering to chaperone the event, Long said.
Trexler is also conducting a canned food drive benefiting Christmas Cheer through Friday. Donations can be dropped off in the front office with guidance counselor Homer Deese.
