Morehead City hires temporary manager

An interim manager has been named to help the Town of Morehead City while it searches for someone to permanently fill the position.

The town council voted this week to hire Peter Connet, who will temporarily fill the city manager position held by Randy Martin, who is retiring and taking a new position in Franklin, Va. Connet retired in 2009 after a 35-year career in local government and has since continued to serve as a manager on an interim basis.

He will begin work in Morehead City about Feb. 20 and his contract continues through June. 30. He will work 3.5 days a week and be paid $60 an hour.

The town council took the action following a closed session on Jan. 30.

The council plans to hire a consulting firm to assist in the search to permanently fill the position but has not yet made a selection.
