Man arrested after allegedly holding woman at knifepoint

A Harkers Island man was arrested this weekend for allegedly holding a knife to his ex-wife, according to Carteret authorities.

David Keith Willis, 39, of Huntley Road, was charged with kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, violation of a domestic protective order and property damage.

The 37-year-old woman reported that Willis appeared behind her as she left work Saturday night, held a knife to her and demanded she get in the car with him, according to a press release from the Carteret County Sheriff’s Department. She reported that she pushed Willis away and he grabbed her by the throat and threatened to kill her.

A person heard her screams and intervened, but not before Willis allegedly broke out her windshield for the second time, according to the release. Willis is currently awaiting a trial for a prior assault against the woman where a domestic violence protective order was issued.

He was held without bond until his Monday morning court appearance, where his bond was set at $50,000.
