Four one-stop early voting sites will be open for 2010 elections in Craven County.
When balloting begins April 15 for the May 4 primary, and again in October for the Nov. 2 general election, voters registered anywhere in Craven County may mark an early absentee ballot at the Cove City Fire Department, the Vanceboro Fire Department, the Havelock Moose Lodge, or at the New Bern Scottish Rite building at 516 Hancock St.
The New Bern Scottish Rite site on Hancock Street replaces one-stop voting at the Craven County Board of Elections site to allow for better parking and less interference with regular county business.
The Craven County Board of Elections made the change on Friday after swearing in new member Zeda Trice, a Democrat nominated by the local party and approved on Thursday by the N.C. State Board of Elections.
The one-stop voting sites for the May primary will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday beginning April 15 and continuing through May 1, the only Saturday one-stop voting. On May 1, all one-stop sites will be open from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.
The elections board also relocated three polling places across the county.
Precinct N5 or Glenburnie Park voters have been voting at the National Guard Armory but their new polling place is at Word in Truth Fellowship Ministries at 1601 National Ave., New Bern.
Voters in Precinct 18 or Havelock East have been voting at Havelock High School’s Performing Arts Center but will now vote at Havelock Moose Lodge, 1007 E. Main St., Havelock.
Voters registered in Precinct 23 or Grantham 2-B who formerly voted at New Bern Fire Department No. 7 at 800 W. Thurman Road, will now vote at Riverdale United Methodist Church, 5195 U.S. 70 East.
