16-year-old charged with two break-ins at same house

A teenager has been arrested and charged with breaking into a house at 1002 Crabtree Circle in New Bern on two occasions.

He is David William "Will" Clifton, 16, of Discovery Bay, Trent Woods.

New Bern police went to the Crabtree Circle house around 8:40 a.m. Friday after a neighbor reported suspicious activity and gave a description.

Beth Stevenson, New Bern police spokeswoman, said officers saw an open window and entered the house, where they found Clifton.

Stevenson said he ran through the back yard and jumped a fence, but was found hiding in nearby shrubbery.

Stevenson said police searched Clifton's car and recovered items that had been reported missing after the same house was broken into Nov. 10.

Clifton was charged with two counts of breaking and entering and larceny, attempted larceny, possession of stolen property and resisting arrest. He was placed in the Craven County jail to be released to his parents' custody.

He is the son of David Clifton, the Craven County schools' assistant superintendent for finance and facilities.
