Countywide rabies clinic set for Wednesday

After confirmation of a case of rabies in a gray fox in Taberna, the Craven County Health Department is sponsoring a vaccination clinic this week.

On Wednesday, all veterinary offices in Craven County will offer rabies vaccinations for $7 per dog or cat.

Residents are asked to call individual veterinary offices for specific times, as some vets may participate in the clinic only during certain hours.

The vaccination is available to dogs and cats that are 4 months old or older.

Clinics may elect to offer only one-year vaccinations to animals that are not current on their shots.

To receive a three-year  rabies vaccination for an animal, a pet owner must provide proof of a current shot record.

A rabid gray fox was found in the Taberna neighborhood of New Bern last week, and Craven County health officials are urging residents to ensure that their pets have received the appropriate shots.
