Weather cancellations/school closures

• Craven County Schools will operate on a three-hour delay on Friday.

• Ferry service from Cherry Branch to Minnesott Beach has been stopped and will resume as soon as conditions improve.

• Cherry Point announced Thursday night that there are no scheduled delays for base employees on Friday. Workers should report on their normal schedules. Employees can call 466-3093 for work status and destructive weather updates. FRC East employees can call 464-8333. DLA Distribution Cherry Point Employees can call 466-4083.

• Cherry Point Base Theater and all base pools have been closed for Thursday. They will reopen on Friday, weather permitting.

• Craven Community College will close at 3 p.m. on Thursday and will operate on a three-hour delay on Friday. Thursday's planned meeting of the Board of Trustees has been rescheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 13.

• The public meeting scheduled for Thursday at Croatan High School regarding the Navy/Marine Corps planned cleanup of munitions left behind on BT-2 (currently known as Wood Island), in Bogue Sound, has been canceled. A reschedule date will be announced later.

• Craven County Schools will dismiss students at 1 p.m. on Thursday. All extra-curricular activities, including sporting events, have been postponed.

• Havelock trash pickup will begin early on Thursday. Residents with normal Thursday pickup are asked to have trash to the curb on Wednesday night. Trash will be collected until conditions prohibit pickup. If trash has not been collected by 3 p.m. on Thursday, residents are asked to bring in their trash and to secure it so it does not blow around. Collection will continue on Friday as soon as conditions allow.

• The N.C. Maritime Museum in Beaufort will close at noon today. Depending on weather conditions, it is scheduled to reopen at 9 a.m. on Friday.

• Carteret County Schools will be closed for students on Thursday and Friday. They are optional work days for staff.

• The Havelock Post Office will lock its lobby doors at 6 p.m. on Thursday. Those needing to gather mail from P.O. boxes should do so before 6 p.m.

• The Havelock Appearance Commission meeting scheduled for Thursday has been postponed until 7 p.m. on Sept. 9 at Havelock City Hall.

• The Morehead City Community Based Outpatient Clinic of the Department of Veterans Affairs will be closed at noon on Thursday and all day Friday. Patients with appointments scheduled for Thursday afternoon and Friday will have their appointments rescheduled.

• Carteret Community College will close Thursday and Friday.
